Just happened across this post looking for something else and wanted to add my $0.02 to the mix here.

POF and OkCupid were the first sites I joined when I began online dating, though I used Craigslist a bit too. Both of those are geared towards long term dating and even seem to penalize you if you just want to get laid really quick while you search. I joined a small hand full of pay sites like AFF and SLS to get laid more. The free sites, in my opinion, seem to target a LTR audience and a lot of those same folks would also not mind paying for an easy place to meet other folks to get laid. Hell, I joined AFF from clicking on a link from POF. I guess my point is that there is difference in “free dating” sites and “paid getting laid” sites because some of the folks that I had sex with off of the paid sites were also members at POF and OkCupid.

99% of website on internet are FREE and 99% of ads delivered and display on FREE websites.

It has nothing to do with paid or free services.

A visitor is a visitor we cant say the guys who use free services are poor and dont have money to spend on any thing

Chicks on those sites just put up profiles for the hell of it. They aren’t really looking for anyone, if they are half-way decent looking.

@Newjersey As Charles noted, Facebook and POF are different animals. One’s a social networking site and the other is a completely free dating site that was build around that simple principle.

From what I’ve gathered, it tends to get you blacklisted on dating offers more than others. I personally have’t been kicked off an offer due to POF traffic, yet.

Also, some offers (read: Spark Networks), specifically state they don’t allow POF traffic.

You’re right that they’re both free, but I think Riley’s talking about the dating niche in particular. Facebook and POF are different because of the intent of the audience.

People go to POF because they want to date people, not only that but some of them go there because it’s a FREE dating site. So if they’re already on a large site like Plenty of Fish, their thought is, “Wait…why should I pay a subscription for eHarmony when I already have POF?”

Of course, the user is doing something different on each site.

If advertisers dont want POF traffic they should just specify that. I guess they dont know the source of the “bad” traffic, however.
